Medicare Enrollment ​

OEP Open Enrollment Period is October 15-December 7​.

GEP General Enrollment Period is January 1-March 31​.

Initial Enrollment 3 months before your 65 birthday month, your 65 birthday month and 3 months after your birthday month​. (Total called 7 months initial enrollment period)

Special Enrollment when you eligible for Medicare.

* Special enrollment period when you leave group or company health insurance, even if you obtain Medicare for reason of kidney disease.

Obtain Part A & Part B through visit your United States Social Security Administration Department local office.
When you turn 65 years old, you can contact Social Security 3 months before for schedule an appointment.

Medicare Part A and Part B

Original Medicare Part A, Part B.

A Medicare Supplement insurance plan, also called a Medigap plan, is a separate policy that works with Medicare Part A (hospital services) and Part B (doctor’s services and supplies) and helps you manage your medical costs. 

Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance)

Contact United States Social Security Administration Department, if you are eligible free for Part A. 

Part A (Hospital Insurance) helps cover: 

  • Inpatient care in hospitals (not custodial or long-term care)
  • Skilled nursing facility care
  • Hospice care
  • Home health care (Medicare & You 2024)

If you didn’t automatically get premium-free Part A (for example, because you’re still working and not yet getting Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) benefits), you can sign up for it anytime after you’re first eligible for Medicare. (Medicare & You 2024)

 

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance)

Part B (Medical Insurance) helps Cover:

  • Doctor's services
  • Outpatients services
  • Medical supplies
  • prevent services
  • Comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation facility. A facility that provides a variety of services on an outpatient basis, including physicians' services, physical therapy, social or psychological services, and rehabilitation.
  • Medical supplies include wheelchairs.

 

Part C Medicare Supplement Insurance

Skilled nursing facility (SNF): A nursing facility with the staff and equipment to give skilled nursing care and, in most cases, skilled rehabilitative services and other related health services.

Before you get Medicare Part C, you must have both Medicare Part A and Part B.  

Medicare Part C and Part D offered by private health insurance company.

Medicare Part B enrollment may delay without pay penalty because of you are under covered by a active group health insurance. 

You could get enrollment in Medicare Part B Special Enrollment Period, it is mean, after you leave the group health insurance within 8 months.

Medicare Summary Notice

It’s a notice that people with Original Medicare get in the mail every 3 months for their Medicare Part A and Part B-covered services. 

The MSN shows: 

  • All your services or supplies that providers and suppliers billed to Medicare during the 3- month period 
  • What Medicare paid 
  • The maximum amount you may owe the provider

Enrollment Period (IEP) when you’re first eligible for Medicare.

  • IEP, it lasts for 7 months. It begins 3 months before the month you reach 65, and it ends 3 months after you reach 65.

  • If you’re eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP), like if you’re covered under a group health plan (GHP) based on current employment.
